Welcome back to another exciting school year! We have had a wonderful start to the term, filled with enthusiasm, fresh energy, and strong connections across our entire school community.
Last week held special significance as we marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Our school honored this historic milestone with a deeply moving memorial walk celebrating local hero Peter Nelson, the former Huntington Manor Fire Chief who perished on 9/11. Leading up to the event, students engaged in meaningful research projects to learn about each victim—their backgrounds, families, and stories—helping to build a reflective tribute at Peter Nelson Park.
During the walk, students passed displays highlighting the names and faces of those lost, taking moments of quiet reflection before laying carnations together to construct an American flag. Beyond reflecting on the tragedy itself, our students focused on the inspiring wave of togetherness, resilience, and kindness that brought communities together in the days following the attacks. This touching tribute served as a powerful reminder of how empathy and community spirit continue to unite us all.
